A Bridge Can Be an Alternative to a Dental Implant

Tooth loss can pose several different complications for your mouth. Beyond the decreased ability to chew food and speak clearly, the missing tooth could gradually cause orthodontic complications. In time, minor changes in structure and alignment can cause chips and enamel attrition on the related teeth in your dentition.

One effective option for restoring the tooth’s presence in your mouth is to have a dental implant inserted into the empty socket. This involves at least one oral surgery and a modest amount of recovery time. Then the implanted abutment will eventually be fitted for a crown.

Another alternative dental restoration involves having a bridge installed at Clearpoint Dentistry’s Houston, Texas clinic. This solid piece of dental work essentially replicates the appearance of a natural tooth. It is fused to a pair of crowns on each end that will eventually be anchored on abutments formed from the neighboring teeth.

To create these anchor points your dentist will use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from each of these teeth. We will then take an impression of the area, including the corresponding teeth in your bite pattern. We will then send it to a special dental lab, where your final bridge will be created.

At the end of the appointment, temporary crowns will be cemented over each abutment to protect them, while you wait.

We will call you in for a brief, second appointment when your bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed, and the bridge will be secured in place with a strong dental adhesive.
