Dentures or Implants?

Posted .

When you need to replace multiple teeth at once, you’ll often get to choose between either dentures or implants. Both have advantages and disadvantages, depending on what your needs are and the overall health of your gums and jaw.

Today, we’ll take a look at the two procedures and inform you of what one may best fit your situation.

Dentures

Dentures come in two forms: either a full or partial set. Full sets are false teeth that fit directly over your gums, and are held in place with an adhesive. If not properly secured, dentures can slip out or cause speech problems. However, if your jaw and gums aren’t healthy enough to support implants, dentures are your best option.

Implants

Implants are titanium screws, drilled into your gums and anchored on or just above your gums. If you’re only missing one or two teeth, implants are generally the best option. The caveat here is that you do need healthy gums and a good jaw bone in order for the implants to take hold. They’ll last for a long time as well, given that you follow a good oral hygiene routine.

At the end of the day, choosing the right solution for your tooth replacement needs is a personal decision and one that you and Dr. Lupy Gonzalez will have to make based on your specific situation. You may think one option is better, but after discussion find the other is more suited to your needs. Regardless, if you need teeth replaced, call us today at 281-487-2400 to schedule an appointment.
